5 Day Itinerary

With its excellent hotel accommodations, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai are popular tourist destinations for both golfing and exploring nature.

Day 1: Fly to Chiang Mai from Bangkok (one hour) and discover why it's known as the "Rose of the North". Drive to the top of Doi Suthep to the revered temple that affords stupendous views of the city. Then explore old Chiang Mai, its most, city walls and alluring old temples, Particularly Wat Phra Singh. In the evening, treat yourself to a Khan toke dinner, the northern style of dining seated on the floor, to the accompaniment of traditional music and dance.

Day 2: Our golf begins with a round at the oldest course, Lanna Golf Club, a tough 27-hole layout packed with mature trees to provide shade and a challenge. Later take trip down Handicraft Highways, the road to Sankamphaeng where you can see many traditional crafts carried out in villages: painted umbrellas, nielloware, wood and silver pieces. Buy some now, or later as you wander through Chiang Mai's famous Night Bazaar.

Day 3: A challenge awaits at Chiangmai Green Valley Country Club, one of the longest courses in the region, about 30 minutes from the city. Lots of bunkers and water add to the difficulty. In the evening, relax it one of the attractive restaurants alongside the Ping River, or book a gentle dinner course.

Day 4: Rise early for an adventure day with a 80-km drive to Chiang Dao elephant camp, to see the animals in their natural environment, go trekking and watch them bathing. Drive on the Thaton for lunch at the Maekok River Village Resort, where you can take a raft for the three hour journey down river to Chiang Rai, stopping at a hilltribe village. Overnight in Chiang Rai.

Day 5: A 20 minute drive takes you to one of Thailand's most beautiful courses, Santiburi Country Club, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. Set in the foothills around Chaing Rai, this friendly courses is more difficult than it looks with sloping lies, water and many dog-legs, Take lunch at the clubhouse before catching the flight back to Bangkok.
