Longstay Visas
Making longstays easy and convenient there are new visas - classified as "O-A"- which allow visitors to remain in the Kingdom for up to one year. These are readily obtainable from the Immigration Department on So Suan Phlu, South Sathon Road, Bangkok 10120.
To qualify for a longstay visa, visitors must be 50 years of age or above, and either have a deposit of at least 800,000 Baht, or proven monthly income of not less than 65,000 Baht. To put those figures into context, cost in Thailand are such that visitors may enjoy a good standard of living for an average around 50,000 Baht a month.
In order to make for formalities even simpler there are now plans to establish a "One-Stop Service Centre". Designed to facilitate procedures for longstays and also to answer whatever queries visitors may have, the Centre, when open will provide a fast and easy service, supported by a network of various government agencies, including the Tourist Police, Immigration and Health Department, as well as the TAT.
