Saraburi
The province, believed to be established in 1548, covers an area of 3,576 square kilometres. The provincial capital is 108 kilometres north of Bangkok.
Major Attractions
Wat Phra Phutthabat
The name of the temple literally means the Buddha's Footprints. Inside it is Phra Phutthabat Museum, which displays various antiques, such as the dress of Phra Chao Song Tham, ancient weapons, footprint of the Buddha, the old roof of Phra Putthabat and the dress and articles used by King Narai the Great.
Also in Amphoe Phra Phuttabat, Phra Phutthabat Shrine is situated on the shelf of Suwan Banphot Hill, 28 kilometres from the provincial township.
Near the temple is a small pond with stones called Bo Phran Lang Nua. The water in this pond is believed to be spiritual, having miraculous power.
Tham Krabok Buddhist Monk Sanctuary
This place, famous for its treatment provided against narcotics addiction, is located in the area of Pong Prap Mountain Range, Tambon Khun Khlon, Amphoe Phra Phutthabat, 25 kilometres along Phahonyothin Road from Saraburi.
Phra Phuttachai
Literally meaning the Buddha's shadow, it is located 16 kilometres from Saraburi at Kms. 102 and 104. From this point, around 5 kilometres, is a temple called Phra Phutthachai. There is the image of Buddha on the cliff. The staircase and the surroundings of this place are very pleasant and shady. Located near the temple is the Mondop of Right Phra Phutthabat, which was discovered under sand.
Khao Sam Lan National Park
Khao Sam Lan National Park is located l6 kilometres from the city on the same route to Wat Phra Phutthachai. The park comprises various kinds of wild woods and beautiful waterfalls such as Nam Tok Sam Lan, Nam Tok Pho Hin Dat and Nam Tok Ton Rak Sai.
Crocodile Farm & Zoo
It is situated around 300 metres away from Phra Phutthachai temple. This private farm nurtures crocodiles and collects various wild animals for the purposes of study and tourism.
Tha Le Ban Mo
Tha Le Ban Mo, situated in Tambon Ban Mo and Sang Sok, is approximately 1,600 rai in area. It is a swamp, which has plenty of fish and water animals. The weather here is appropriate for relaxation, especially from February to July, when teal from Siberia come here. The area is decorated with flowers and ornamental plants as well as encompasses many islets.
Phra Phothisat Cavern and Thammathat Cavern
These caverns have the drawings and the image of the Buddha in the Dvaravati period. The sacred places and Lanka pagoda are found here. There are accumulated and suspended limestones, natural places and a variety of beautiful plants. Wat Phothisat Cavern is located at Village No. 4, Tambon Thap Kwang, approximately 36 kilometres from the province.
Float W the Tide on the Pa Sak River
Pa Sak River provides good scenery, especially the natural views along the hanks of the river. You can stay overnight at Hat Pha Me and can go fishing. This place is situated at Amphoe Kaeng Khoi, around l5 kilometres from the province on Mittraphap Road.
Chet Khot Waterfall Forest Park
It is situated approximately 28 kilometres from Amphoe Kaeng Khoi. In this beautiful site, there are plenty of various plants as well as a waterfall called Chet Khot Waterfall, which looks like a 7-metre line from the cliff. It starts in the forest, passing a virgin forest and a thick forest. There are various rare wild animals such as bison, barking deer, monitor lizards, hare, etc.
Krok E-Dok Waterfall
It is situated at Village No. 5, Tamhon Cha Oam. This waterfall comes from the higher cliff whose height is around 50 metres. The waterfall is the most beautiful waterfall in Sarahuri province. The watershed passes a dry virgin forest. There are also various wild animals.
Sunflower Farming
This 2,000-acre sunflower farm is in Tambon Wang Muang. The farm is most beautiful during November-December, when the plants come into flower.
Muak Lek Arboretum
This arboretum is located 37 kilometres from Saraburi on Mittraphap Road. It occupies an area of 450 rai and is situated at the middle point between Amphoe Muak Lek of Sarahuri province and Amphoe Pak Chong of Nakhon Ratchasima province.
Muak Lek Waterfall
Situated in Amphoe Muak Lek. this waterfall is l0 metres high. There are huge rocks in the stream as well as plenty of flowers and ornamental plants. On the way, we can see the Thai - Denmark Dairy Farm, and buy curry puff, preserved meat and various kinds of fruits.
Nam Tok Sao Noi or Chet Sao Noi
This waterfall is accessible through the same road to Nam Tok Muak Lek, but further nine kilometres. The waterfall has many levels and the surrounding is naturally beautiful with a spacious shady swimming area.
Major Events
There are two annual fairs celebrating the footprints: the first one falls on the 8th waxing moon day to the 1st waning moon day of the 3rd lunar month; and the second falls on the 8th waxing moon day to the 1st waning moon day of the 4th lunar month.
